Welcome to the LinkBin Project Page. This project is still in the initial planning and prototype stages. Please come back in the future for more information.
Overview
The goal of the LinkBin project is to be a server-based bookmark storage solution. As such, it is ideal for users who frequently access the internet from several different computers (e.g. from work and home). It is written in PHP and uses Pear::DB class to abstract the database connection. (see pear.php.net for more information on supported databases).
Features
- Allows multiple users to store their own bookmarks on one installation of LinkBin.
- Friendly user interface for easy addition and editing of links.
- Ability to specify whether links are public (i.e. you want to share them with others) or private (i.e. only accessible with password authentication.
- The links can be categorized in 'Bins' which will support an infinitely deep tree for subcategorization of links.
- Designed to make use of sidebars in Mozilla/Netscape, Internet Explorer, and Opera, although it doesn't have to be used in this way.
- Links can be exported in Mozilla/Netscape format, Opera Hotlist format, CSV, or XML format.
- Links can be imported from Mozilla/Netscape, Opera, or Internet Explorer.
- GPL licensed and based on free technologies, so it doesn't cost you anything, and you can modify the program as you wish.
Possible Features
- Storing an associated RSS feed for each link. LinkBin would then be able to check the RSS feeds and notify the user of updated content.
- Etc...
